San Diego Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Since the late 1990’s when the internet boom started, companies have been scrambling to figure out how to adapt to the changing technological landscape that is the INTERNET.  The Internet has changed everything.  For decades, the de facto standard in advertising for businesses was the Yellow Pages.  Ever since the wide spread adoption and acceptance of the Internet, traditional methods of advertising have become progressively less effective.  For instance, companies started spending dramatically less of their advertising budget on Yellow Page ads - to the point that one of the largest Yellow Pages companies (RH Donelley) was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2009:

“Our…strategy never anticipated the cataclysmic collapse of the…local advertising market,” David Swanson, Donnelley’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

So what happened in a nutshell is that after about a decade, the Internet became the new platform standard which people used to do their product/services searching.  More specifically, when they perform a search on the Internet, they need to perform a search by using a “Search Engine.”  The main search engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing, AOL, etc…  So what happens when somebody does a search in the search engine?  This is when a quality SEO consultant comes in to play.  When the user performs a search, “search results” are then displayed.  SEO is simply the modification of the website and external factors so that the website shows up as high as possible in these “search results.”

Lets say for fun that a searcher types in “San Diego SEO Consultant.”  What then comes up is important – if your SEO company is listed on the first page of search results, there is a high probability that the person searching for a San Diego SEO company will SEE your website on that first page.  If they SEE your website listed (and it looks good to them) they might CLICK on your website link to explore your website further.  Once they are on your website, the first page they come to on your site (Landing Page Optimization) needs to be optimized to the fullest as well.  Proper copywriting and keyword research will help to bring people to your site, and make them interested enough in your products/services to where they either turn into a buyer, or inquire further.  As is evident from the above scenario, the website owner only obtained a lead (random Internet user) because their website was visible on the Search Engines.

This is the definition of SEO:  The art and practice of actively managing factors “on page” and “off page” to generate the most visibility to Search Engines – thus giving the website owner the greatest ROI possible via maximized search traffic.
